    Product Details

Vitamin K2 is a category of fat-soluble vitamin K that is essential for the human body. Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone, is further subdivided into short-chain and long-chain menaquinones. One such long-chain menaquinone is MK-7. Widely known for playing a role in supporting bone health, Vitamin K2, particularly menaquinone-7 (MK-7), has been gaining momentum in the research industry.

    Bone health and vitamin K2
Vitamin K2 MK-7 is produced by the gut bacteria by converting vitamin K1. However, MK-7 produced by the gut bacteria does not contribute much to the overall vitamin K status as most of it is passed out of the body. Among the external sources, fermented foods such as cheese is one of the common sources of Vitamin K2 MK-7, but cheese is also a minimal source of Vitamin K2 MK-7. Japanese fermented soybean dish, popularly known as Natto, is a major source of Vitamin K2 MK-7, but its taste is not for everyone.

Nattokinase is an enzyme extracted from Natto, which is responsible for providing maximum benefits of Vitamin K2 MK-7. Nattokinase helps in directing calcium to our bones. Calcium inadequacy is a problem faced by many of us, hence at times we resort to calcium supplements in order to support our bone health. However, research suggests that increased calcium intake can lead to arterial calcification with deposits of calcium lined up on our arterial walls.

Osteocalcin is a protein formed in our bones that helps take calcium from the blood circulation and bind it to the bone matrix. However, osteocalcin needs to be activated, and Vitamin K2 MK-7 does the vital job of activating this protein. Osteocalcin upon activation influences bone mineralization, thus supporting stronger bones.

In short, Vitamin K2 MK-7 acts as the factor for directing calcium to where it belongs (bones) and away from wrong areas, such as blood vessels.1

    Heart and arterial health
Deposition of calcium in the walls of blood vessels and soft tissues is termed as arterial calcification. Increased consumption of calcium can be one of the reasons for arterial calcification leading to arterial stiffening, thus increasing the risk of heart problems. Another reason for arterial calcification can be metabolic disorders.

Vitamin K2 MK-7 has been gaining momentum for the last few years in promoting a healthy calcium balance in your arteries. Vitamin K2 MK-7 is deemed necessary for the activation of matrix-Gla proteins (MGP). Matrix-Gla proteins (MGP) are essential for inhibition of arterial calcification. Matrix-Gla proteins inhibit the deposits of calcium on the walls, thus supporting cardiovascular health.

    Inhibits inflammation
Apart from promoting bone and heart health, Vitamin K2 MK-7 also helps in regulating one more aging-related mechanism. MK-7 is able to modulate immune inflammatory factors by potentially inhibiting gene expression and generation of proinflammatory markers produced by the white blood cells called monocytes.
